My best efforts would go like this
The offside rule in football can be compared to a special shopping rule where you’re waiting to grab a limited-time offer on a handbag.
Imagine you’re at a store with a rule: to get the special offer on a handbag, you must wait behind at least one other shopper until the store employee (similar to your teammate in football) signals or announces that the offer is now available.
If you run ahead of the line and try to grab the offer before the store employee announces it, even if you’re the closest to the handbag shelf, it’s not allowed and you won’t get the special price.
In football, if you move in front of the last defender (excluding the goalkeeper) before the ball is passed to you, you’re considered “offside,” and you won’t get the chance to play the ball legally, just like you won’t get the handbag at the offer price if you broke the store’s rule.
